  • Render Element - Ambient occlusion

    Hi,
I have been testing the vrayRE_Extra_Tex with Vraydirt connected to it.
However, the dirt node looks at normals. When doing a AO pass, I usually use the Vray Mtl 2sided to avoid this problem.
But with the vrayRE_Extra_Tex, how can I do this?

Also is there a way to connect a material to the vrayRE_Extra_Tex?

    thanks.

I'll add to this question. In older versions of vray, a thin surface would render double-sided, and AO/dirt would look fine. Newer versions have stopped that, and the backside renders black. Why? Can we go back to the old way?

I'm looking into it (probably will add a "double-sided" option to VRayDirt); there is no way to connect a material to the VRayExtraTex element though.

          Thank you Vlado.
I think I saw that on the 3ds max side, but could we get a VrayExtramaterial render element to connect another material?

No, there is no material in 3ds Max either, as this is very complicated to implement. You can kind of get a similar effect using a VRayBlendMtl material - then you can use a VRayMtlSelect element to store each of the components of the blend material into its own layer.

              I'll give this a try.

              Thanks.
