  • V-Ray for Maya RT public beta begins..?

    Hello to all,

    I was wondering when the open public beta will start officially since I was expecting it to start yesterday (16 Aug) as mentioned in Siggraph.

    Lastly, how and where can we access the night builds that integrate CPU RT or other new features, as far as I've seen from other members using them already?

    It will be this week; couldn't quite make it for Monday. The builds will be on the site in the download section for V-Ray for Maya. They will be practically the same as the nightly builds (although updated only every week, not every day).

          RT is working allready only the interface is missing Or I am to stupid to find the new settings

          Btw. RT is a lot faster since the latest build! thanks.

            I downloaded the latest nightly build for Maya 2011 OSX, but I cant see any RT things in it at all ... so I guess you are not the only one who cant find it :P

              Hey Carsten,
              The OS X builds are all getting the RTEngine cannot be started error, so I think it's tough luck for us Mac folks until further notice

                    If you have 3-SLI cards, does it share the Ram across all cards? Also, is the Maya RT as fast as the 3DSMAX version? Watching the Maya RT demo from Siggraph is painful compared to it running under 3DSMAX.

                      I try to use the nightly build from last night. IPR seems to work ok so far with the exception of this error:

                      // Error: There was a fatal error rendering the scene.

                      when I import and try to IPR my character. the IPR i tested and works great in this scene up until i import this character animation then i get that error and it stops working. even if i hide the character it still wont IPR the scene. if i delete the character and rig from the scene the IPR will work again. if i duplicate the characters geometry so its static and delete the rig the IPR will also work again. im using the TSM rig nothing fancy. should be basic.

                        a ha ha i tricked it now though. so i deleted my rig. then I started the IPR render. then with IPR still active i import the rig *danger not recommended* BUT it works! i can scrub on the timeline and my character animates as well as IPR is rendering. will be sort of a hassle as soon as i want to stop/start the IPR render though.

                          opp think i might have deleted my post sorry if this double posts.

                          When I enter the IPR for the fisrt session the camera doesnt seem to IPR, if i tumble track etc. If i stop and restart the IPR the camera works fine interactively.

                            If i bake the character animation into a geo cache. and set it to IPR render it seems to crash maya. although I just re-set it up and it seems to be working ok with the baked geo cache. I think maybe i had a maya lambert material on there which the IPR might not work with. cant remember the exact error of the crash. seems like in the RT terminal was something about closing session due to infinite loop.

                              The GPU version does not share the RAM of the cards; each card is completely separate.
                              Also, is the Maya RT as fast as the 3DSMAX version? Watching the Maya RT demo from Siggraph is painful compared to it running under 3DSMAX.
                              It is just as fast; the version that we had there was one of the earliest builds and did not work very well.
