I am aware version is a big issue between studios and remote farms.
We have an inhouse render farm but we keep maxing it out.
You mentioned you don't have a render farm. What happen to your truck? (http://silverdraft.com/)

Silverdraft's spec didn't work out well with V-Ray. Currently there's a memory bandwidth issue when rendering on a 4 CPU machine with V-Ray when you need to use a lot of Ram. Also, I am currently at a studio in Toronto for the month. The Silverdraft truck is in Los Angeles.

interesting thread guys, i heard with rebus and they are only running official builds.

so what would we lose out on if we went back to running version 2.0.04? Is there Ptex in that build?
It's a lifetime of nightlies ago, so I can't remember

Will V-Ray for Maya 2.1 be officially out soon? A release of that would really help in terms of render farms...

I would stay away from official 2.0 release build. I am right now all about stable build vray_adv_20004_maya2011_x64_16694. If a render company won't put custom builds on, then they have a shit setup in terms of organization and server application sync. I would stay away. The big problem with V-Ray on farms is when you are using vrmesh files and ies lights. So people have had great success but I have not. I still think renting machines is the best way to do it. Also Silverdraft is stepping it up and I am using the truck right now with great success.

          thanks for the input, scott!
yeah, it'd be painful to go back to a version without all the bug fixes and new features. I guess I'll have to convince my boss to buy more machines for our farm then...
