  • Contact Shadow with Extra-Tex

I'm trying to obtain a render pass of the contact shadow of my character in the ground plane without the self ambien occlusion of the character, and without the self shadows of the ground. Reading around I've aknowledge that maybe it could be solved with the user attributes, but I can't figure it out how.
I'll attach an image to show you how it's rendering the pass.

    Thankyou

This effect can be easy achieved with Vray Edge Texture Render Element with VrayDirtMap plugged in "Texture" slot.
VrayDirtMap has an option called "Ignore Self Occulusion".

Let us know if you need further support with this workflow.

      Thanks for your reply!

What do you mean with Vray Edge Texture Render Element? I have to put a Vray Edge in the Extra Tex render element?

Actually i have a Vray Dirt in the Texture slot of the Extra Tex, but if i switch on Ignore Self Occulusion i can't solve my problem because each object of my character cast Occlusion on each others.
What i would like is a Occlusion pass with total white character, no self occlusion on the ground and just contact occlusion between character end ground. I know that i could do that with a separate Render Layer but i'm looking for a Render Element way...

      Thanks

well you need to have your object rendered separately from the ground. In the ground layer (which we typically call environment) you make your character primary visibility off, that will just give you contact shadow in amb occlusion. And as svetlozar mentioned, if you check ignore self occlusion then you will only get amb occlusion from your character.

Thanks Morbid, in the end I have made a separate render layer as you said. I think there is a way to do it as Render Element, but doesn't matter

          Thanks guys!

you are correct. I think in 3ds max extra tex pass has a selection exclude list, which allows you to specify which objects you want included to the pass.

How do you do that? I couldn't figure out a way.

                Thanks
