  • Vray custom render passes

    Heya

Is there a way to create custom render passes like with Mental Ray? I want to be able to use few specular and reflection results of materials to come out as a custom render pass. Basically combining few refl/speculars in to one render data...

Unfortunately we don't support that feature.
With V-Ray you can mix the default color with some render elements known as "Raw" or some Filter elements, but not reflection and specular passes. You should do that in post.

yes I do it in post but its just my shader currently is bit mixed. And I need specular and reflection from 2 out of 5 materials to give a merged result and then 3 other give other results. Or else I have to rerender reflection pass again- its ok not much for a trouble but it would be great if we could select a set of materials and add each of their passes together and then get result as new render layer... Like now lightselect give us specular and diffuse in 1 go.

I have 2 reflections and 3 speculars. I want to mix 1 reflection with 3 speculars and then get 1 reflection left... atm I have to render 3sepc+1refl, and then again render just the 1 refl missing...

      Thanks.

You can build your materials as layered materials with the reflection and diffuse parts in separate shaders; then you can use the material select element to extract the contribution of those layers separately. You can also use the multimatte element to mask any objects as needed.

Uuu that could totally work ! Can I extract specular/refl/diffuse/etc per material selected or I just get beauty?

          Thanks!!

You can only extract an entire blend layer. Which is why I suggested to split the diffuse/reflection parts into separate materials inside a blend material. You can maybe separate the specular too, but I haven't tried it.

Yup I'm pretty sure I can make it work. I wonder if it will have any hit on render time. But I think if 1 material create only 1 effect there should be none. I will see if I can add a blend mtl inside a blend and then use the blend for render pass.. Will it output summary of all the materials under that blend. Then it would be really nice and allow me to make more custom passes hihihih

              Thanks Vlado again !

                Edit

Listing mtlBlend inside a blend and the reflection next to it work perfectly. I have all my shaders with spec/diffuse in 1 blend and then all refl in next slot. Render pass come out perfectly. Another reason to keep additive mode in mtlblend and support it for rt gpu/cpu

                Thanks V !

                    Hey

Any chance to customize material select so that it can take more than 1 input? I have 2 paints that both have Clear Coats - it would be great if I can get them both in 1 pass instead of 2...

                    Thanks, bye.

It is not impossible... will see what can be done.
