  • Please share your v-ray for Maya materials!

    Hi Everyone!

I've been slowly working on my v-ray for Maya materials website for about a year now. The site currently has about 50 materials and thousands of users! All the materials, with few exceptions I created from scratch or tweaked up ones I found online. It is not a money making site, I created it simply to try and encourage v-ray Maya resources which we really need. Max get's all the attention and it's time we joined forces and gave more support to v-ray for Maya.

In order to do this I need your help. Up until now I've been building this resource by myself but if it's going to become a great resource I need others to contribute and join the community. If even just a few of you uploaded materials to the site it would help the community immensely!

Please check it out and consider contributing!

Well when you upload materials it will give you points and the material shows as being uploaded by your registered name meaning you are getting credit for it. I'd like to do some kind of leaderboard eventually with top contributors. If you became a large contributor I might consider letting you become an administrator on the site. Either way we desperately need to share materials, and I've worked hard to make a relatively easy system to do that. The way I think about it is, if I worked hard to created a material I needed for a project. Then I should upload it. I have a great skin shader I've been working on which i'm going to put up pretty soon.

I have a few of them up there, but the truth is they are getting old enough now quite often if I open them up they don't seem to look that good and need some tweaking to make more realistic. Anyone can upload and I need a few other people to start helping me get some up there. Only 1 person has ever uploaded 1 material (as of today)

The internet makes you take things like this for granted I guess, someone worked hard on all the free stuff we download and that takes sacrifice.

I think a lot of people would upload if they could simply press a button in Maya and it uses a python script to upload this shader and bitmaps to your server. Reckon you would see a thousand percent increase in materials.

I think it should be possible, the infamous Shader Library for Maya could do something similar.

Wow that is an amazing idea! Even just to use myself, I wonder how big a project it would be to write it?

I tried to make it as simple as I could to upload but you still have to get a zip together with your textures and a thumbnail.

You should get a hold of Christian from Sunday Studio, at least take a look at the sunday pipeline tools which uses python, maybe he could implement an online part of the warehouse asset lib which points the material library at your site. and yes that would be awesome!

                  I second that idea.
