  • getting crazy need some help !!

    hi guys ,
downloaded and installed 2.04 edu for maya 2014 today
load a 96000 poly model , start RT , i can tweack my lights or camera setting
but as soon as i try to tweak the material , RT stop and i get following error

// Warning: Render host master (127.0.0.1) is not responding //

the weird thing is that if i have only a simple sphere .. then the crash do not happen
with a very high poly sphere teh crash happen again ..

    either on cpu or gpu

thank you for any help you could provide

      Desse, my friend

did this happen just a moment u installed new ver?

did it work before, can u try roll back to previous ver u had, and confirm that this problem still exist?

nope sadly i cannot roll back ..
HD crash over teh week end .. and i hade to reinstall everything ..
do not have maya 2013 anymore ...

but i can confirm that it is related to the amount of polys that i send to RT

          i see,
can u try convert ur model to proxy?

          and try again

p.s when u say RT, u mean Cpu RT, or GPU RT?

            both ,
            gpu and cpu ...
fo rnoe i did duplicate my geo and have a layer with low poly .. kind of working .. but not the way it should be ..
spent some time in arnold with that model .. and did not have those issue ,,., although i really want to render this one in vray ..

              i understand u totally,

try with proxy, coz i have a feeling that vray may have small wait data signal for receving data thru network, just a thought...

will see what will vlado say when he wakes up

                Hi,

Can you send us the scene, so we can take a look at it and try to reproduce the problem?

                Best regards,

                  hi guys...
doing a vray proxy geo is working ..

teodor, the files would be around 500 mb .. would send you a link tonight ( at work right now )

but i the meantime.. you can reproduce it easilly

                  create a low poly sphere
assign material .. dome light send to RT... everything is fine,, you can tweak the shader in real time
                  now,
polysmooth that sphere to around one million poly
                  send to rt ..
you can tweak the camera or light ... but as soon that you touch the shader ,.. crash

thank you for looking into it

We've been able to reproduce this issue here, so there is no need to give us any scene.
I think there is a workaround you can use for this problem. You can force the geometry type to be static.
The setting could be found at Render Settings -> Settings -> System -> Default geometry.
The default option is "Auto", set it to "Static and it should work. At least here it works here.

                      thank you ,
                      would try tonight ..
what do the static option does ?

Static - all geometry is pre compiled into an acceleration structure at the beginning of the rendering and remains there until the end of the frame. The static raycasters are not limited in any way and will consume as much memory as necessary.

good thing to know there is a solution
