  • Eye Rays and Light Rays

    Hello,

I have a neon sign using the vray light material with direct Illum on, I have to pump the intensity very high to get the desired light/gi bleed. But the actually geo is now blown out and visibly unappealing. Is there a way to use the light material for both gi and light calculations but use another material for the final render. I know there is the material overrides but It looks like there is no separate slots for eye rays and light rays.
    P.s.

I know it can easily be done in comp but would prefer to fix it in 3D.

    Thanks!

Use material overrides. Just stuck in GI slot material thats 10x brighter and leave in main slot material that has right brightness for ur image.

As mention that does work for GI but not for emitted light.

Duplicate geo. Make it emit light > Pimary Visibility off?

Considered that too but would prefer not for pipeline reasons and constant animation updates.

There is no way to do this if you used the "direct illumination" option of the light material. If you let it work through GI alone, then you can use the material overrides, but it might get slower to render.
