  • Material Overides

    Hi,

Im having trouble with understanding the material overrides with regards to reflections.

I have a scene with a domelight with a hdr image and a building object. I want the building glass to use the original domelight for lighting etc but reflect a different hdr image.

The reflect material override affects the objects reflection, not what it sees in its reflection so thats no use, and if i use the material environment override, the original domelight overrides the reflection.

I'm totally confused as you might have gathered from my post

ok so the instant i posted this i remembered about the object properties addon. I add the domelight to the reflection exclude set and it seems to work. Can someone clarify that the correct workflow is to :

1.Add environment material overide and add the correct hdr image
    2. Add the object property and exclude the original domelight from the reflections.

    Cheers

Yes, that would be the correct workflow in you case, sorry for the late reply.
The reason why it works this way is that the glass will reflect the dome light (if visible) or the environment if the dome is invisible. So you need to override the environment and make the dome light not affect the glass reflection so it directly reflects the new environment.
