  • Environment override order priority

    Hi folks,

    me again

I have a case here where I have to render parts of a model with a different reflection environment.
I have one dome light with a hdr. But I need a per shader environment override.

It seems, that this is overridden by the dome light.
But shouldn't be the specialized value the one with topmost priority?

    Thanks

I have to add, that I can not use the workflow with object properties and reflection exclude lists, because it is an scripted scene,
where object properties are used on groups one level higher (which then would not work, because object properties have got priorities too)

I don't know how well this would work in your scene setup:
      - disable "affect reflections" of the dome light
      - enable the global environment overrides and use the dome light's texture for reflection overrides
      - add environment override to the shader you need to override (with a different texture)

This way the dome light will still affect speculars but all objects in the scene will reflect the environment reflection override + the shaders with the material environment override will reflect their proper texture.

        Thanks Alex,

        worked!!!

The above combination was the one I did not try

        Cheers!

I'm glad it did, I wasn't sure if there were any more specific things to your project, but it was worth a try, as it turns out.

I had that problem long time ago, but could solve it with the common way of doing it (exclude lists, etc...), but in this case I was so
concerned with our special workflow and convinced, that the environment override tab would act the same way, as keeping it in the dome light,
            that I didn't give it a chance...

Sometimes, it lies right in front of your eyes...
Anyway, big thanks one more time!!
