  • Render multiple Render Setup layers in Maya 2017

    Hi

Hoping someone can help out here.

I'm rendering some product shots of several different objects and different angles, so i have 3 render setup layers, with some material overrides etc.
VRay seems a bit wonky in working with Maya's new Render Setup system - or is it just me?

If i deselect master layer, and set the 3 layers to renderable. And then start vary (not batch) then it just renders the one layer which i'm on or is visible in the viewport.

If i under the render menu and render sequence option choose render all layers, it renders the layers, but 2-3 times each layer. I accentially discovered this, when i saw is go back to frame 01 and render again - but in the same layer that had just finished.

Is there a special work around when using VRay or ?

Version: Maya 2017u2, VRay 3.4.06 (official stable build)
    OS: OSX 10.11.6

In non-batch render mode VRay would only render the current layer. In batch mode - it will render all layers - just like any other renderer in Maya.
Then the render sequence option we'll have to look at and we'll get back to you after we do that.

      Hi
I've reproduced the issue with the rendering sequence option and they are in fact rendered multiple times. I've logged it in our system and will let you know as soon as the issue is resolved. The only work around for the moment is using batch mode, since the layers aren't rendered multiple times there.

        Hi guys

Thanks for getting back to me. I look forward to full support in non-batch mode. I'll use the work around until then.

Another "bug" you might add to this is the specific frames option doesn't work either with Render Setup Layers. If i have two frames, for example 3,6 it will still only render the first frame, it completely ignores the next frames. I haven't tried to see if it works in batch render though.

        Cheers

          Hello.

The sequence rendering option is currently not supported by V-Ray and therefore isn't expected to work at all. In Maya 2017 you get a message that it's not supported by the respective renderer. In update 2, there's a bug from Maya side which calls the renderer for an ordinary render job and this is done for each frame. This should be fixed by Autodesk.
