  • vrayobjectproperties Primary visibility and Exclusion lists

In the vrayobjectproperties, 'Primary visibility' for lights isn't working. Geometry placed in the vrayobjectproperties reacts fine.

Exclusion list don't appear to work either.

    Cheers

I don't think "primary visibility" was ever made to work for lights.
The exclusion list, however, should work just fine - for example the vrayobjectproperties can be assigned to a geometry object, then a light can be placed in the exclusion list for reflections and the light won't be visible in this object's reflections, but still visible in other objects' reflections.

What V-Ray and Maya versions are you using?
Heres's a sample scene of the setup - does it differ from yours? vop_reflection_exclude_lights.zip

Cheers for the scene - The 'vrayobjectproperties' hides the lights from the geometry successfully.

This isn't working on my scene - I am using VRaySoftbox and parenting the light to a locator.
          I'm using 27382.

On your scene, the geometry is hidden from all light reflections. Is it possible to hide certain lights from the geo and not others?

          Cheers

That's practically the idea - I've put all my lights into the exclude list, but you can put just some of them. Can you share a scene that we can look at?

Got it, looking into it now.

I got a look at the scene, here's what I changed to make it work: to exclude a light from an object's reflection, the object needs to have vrayObjectProperties and within those, the reflection exclude list needs to be enabled. The light goes into the exclude list, not in the vrayObjectProperties. To disconnect the light from the vrayObjectProperties, I've used the set editor (vrayObjectProperties is a set as far as Maya is concerned).
I sent you a pm with the modified scene. Let me know if that's the result you were after.

                    Great, thanks Alex.

I didn't think to use the Relationship Editor for light linking.

                    Cheers

It's not light linking per se. The vrayObjectProperties includes objects to apply properties to just like a Maya set. Adding objects is easy in the outliner, but removing objects requires using the set editor.
