  • Render visible and contributing geo only

    Hi all

is there a way to render only the visible and contribution geometry in a scene.

So, if there's lots of geometry not visible to the camera, and not casting GI, but perhaps hidden behind other geometry.

Or a way to hide all non contributing geo.

    Hope this makes sense

    Cheers

If you use .vrmesh or Alembic files through a V-Ray proxy object, they will be loaded on demand during rendering as needed.

      Cool, cheers.
How might you set up a scene?
With something like a car, would you suggest outputting a series of vrmeshes for say, the interior, exterior etc?

      cheers

It would be fine if you export just one .vrmesh file. The wheels might need to be separate because they might need more motion blur segments.

          Cool, cheers.
Is it simply a case of exporting the car, wheels etc. and then reimporting in to a new Maya scene?

Yes, you can just export your objects and then re-import back into Maya. There's an option to do the import automatically with the export, but this deletes the original objects.
