  • VrayLightSelect - Full Mode with Matte Object

We are currently evaluating the new "Full" Light Select Mode for our latest feature film, and have come across an issue when used in combination with Matte Surface Objects. It would appear that Matte Objects still receive partial lighting contribution within the Full Light Select render element, which is not ideal for MultiPass Compositing.

Is this a known issue? What the chances of getting it fixed?

I saw that you've already opened a ticket and spoken with tashko.zashev about the issue.

For anyone else wondering - the issue is logged in our bug tracker and we'll post here when we have an update.

A fix has been pushed into the stable 3.6 branch. Today's stable nightly builds, numbered 28160, contain the changes. The changes will also go into the next major release.

        Hi Alex,

We are currently on a custom build, any chance we could get the fix incorporated into that version? Vlado is across this and is aware of the build we are using.

        Cheers,

        Drew

I thought it was there, but I will double-check.

          Best regards,
          Vlado

            Hi Vlado,

We are on build 36004.00003 for Maya 2016 if that helps at all.

I just tested this (Nightly number 28275, Vray 3.60.05 for Maya2017) and I am still getting the error with matte objects in a Light Select Full RE. Any idea why that might be? Can someone at Chaos confirm that this version has the fix in it?

I don't see any issues with 28275, but then again, I might be overlooking something. The fix for the light select and matte surfaces is included in the build. Can you get me a scene and some images that help illustrate the problem?

I am attaching a Maya scene and corresponding EXR render which illustrates the problem. If you look at the LightSelect RE in the EXR you will see that the ground plane matte object is getting lit, which is incorrect. BugLightPass.zip

Note: the same error is present in all LightSelect types (full, spec, etc.). It appears both when using a WrapperMtl and when making matte objects with the VrayObjectProperties.

I need to discuss this with the devs and I'll get back to you with more info.
