  • Vray Proxy flipping normals for Objects with negative scales

    Hey,

We often use instanced objects in maya that are flipped across one axis via negative scaling as this leads to a much smaller filesize than using duplicated geo. This all renders fine as geo. However, when we export to VRay Proxy for populating other shots all the geo that has a negative scale gets its normals flipped and renders incorrectly in the shots. Is there any way to work around this?

    Thanks

This doesn't seem right. I've logged it as a bug with tracking number VMAYA-7725.
Unfortunately, I can't think of any workarounds while still using vrmesh. It seems to work with alembic, though - including when the alembic is imported as VRayProxy.

The fix for this is now available in V-Ray Next for Maya, update 2.
