  • Maya 2017 Vray water height mapping

    Hi there,

I'm trying to map the wave height in vray water by a map, but nothing works- even if I plug a simple checker, it just removes the displacement all over the plane.
    Any ideas?

Thank you for reporting that. I have added this as a bug to our system.

As a workaround, you could try using PhoenixFDOceanTexture instead of VRayWater. If you don't have PhoenixFD you could download a trial and use the Ocean texture as much as you like.

Or create the ocean texture from vray plugin (Create > VRay > Create from VRay plugin > Textures > PhoenixFDOceanTex).

Thank you for the answers! I actually found a workaround- turns out in maya there's a plugin called lookdev toolkit, and once active it has a few more shading nodes- one of them is a colorMath node, which basically allows you to multiply RGB vector map by simple 8 bit 0-1 B&W map and plug the result into the displacement map- and it works!
