    You shouldn't worry about this error it is a known issue and it's is a bit hard for fixing. It occurs mostly when Maya software or another render is the default one. We have quite a lot of older threads about this error and I can assure you that this isn't casing the issue with the camera.
    Since you spoke for starting V-Ray from network location does this mean that you're using V-Ray from zip installation not the one with the installer even on the local machine?

      Ok understood.

      Yes this is correct. V-Ray from zip installation for all of our nodes.

      Then I tried a local install of V-Ray (not from zip) and got the same issue in maya batch.

        I have a few more questions.
        • Is it possible to share a full render log with me?
        • Does this issue (moving to 0.0.0) happen only with the camera or it happens also with the geometry and other scene objects?

          Do you mean a log with a higher verbosity level? If so, that's no problem.

          Its only the camera. The scene objects seem to remain in their position. I know this because of a completed frame that was saved which looked exactly the same as a default maya 'front' camera only with the same FOV as the shotCam in the scene.

              When you're running V-Ray from a net location do you uninstall the local version of V-Ray and what V-Ray related environment variables do you use for starting Maya with V-Ray from net location?

                up until trying the local install today we don't usually have the local version installed, only run from the network location (zip install).

                here are V-Ray related environment variables located inside the maya.env file

                MAYA_RENDER_DESC_PATH=R:\software\3d\Chaos Group\V-Ray\Maya\2016\_latest\maya_root\bin\rendererDesc
                VRAY_FOR_MAYA2016_MAIN=R:\software\3d\Chaos Group\V-Ray\Maya\2016\_latest\maya_vray
                VRAY_FOR_MAYA2016_PLUGINS=R:\software\3d\Chaos Group\V-Ray\Maya\2016\_latest\maya_vray\vrayplugins
                PATH=R:\software\3d\Chaos Group\V-Ray\Maya\2016\_latest\maya_root\bin;%PATH%
                MAYA_PLUG_IN_PATH=R:\software\3d\Chaos Group\V-Ray\Maya\2016\_latest\maya_vray\plug-ins;%MAYA_PLUG_IN_PATH%
                MAYA_SCRIPT_PATH=R:\software\3d\Chaos Group\V-Ray\Maya\2016\_latest\maya_vray\scripts;%MAYA_SCRI PT_PATH%
                XBMLANGPATH=R:\software\3d\Chaos Group\V-Ray\Maya\2016\_latest\maya_vray\icons;%XBMLANGPATH %
                PYTHONPATH=R:\software\3d\Chaos Group\V-Ray\Maya\2016\_latest\maya_vray\scripts;%PYTHONPAT H%

                XGEN_CONFIG_PATH = R:\software\3d\Chaos Group\V-Ray\Maya\2016\_latest

                  Still no joy with this issue. It happens consistently across all machines in our setup regardless of V-Ray build (I have tried several).

                    there is a space in the %PYTHONPATH% in your post. Maybe you should check if this isn't causing some issues.

                    However I've managed to reproduce the problem and here is a screenshot:
                    Click image for larger version Name:	vrayNextCamTest.0001.png Views:	1 Size:	1.20 MB ID:	1019878

                    This is only reproducible on my side when I have V-Ray installed locally and I use versions of V-Ray that are different ( if I understand correctly you're using 4.04.01 locally and 4.04.02 form the zip). Then started batch rendering with V-Ray from the network location. Generally we don't recommend using V-Ray from zip file alongside another V-Ray installed locally on the same Maya and I really don't reccomend trying . Here are a few suggestions that you could try.
                    • Before using V-Ray from the net location make sure that all V-Ray versions installed locally are uninstalled. Check the "C:\Program Files\Autodesk\Maya2018\vray" and "C:\Program Files\Chaos Group\V-Ray\Maya 2018 for x64" make sure that they don't exist. The same applies for all environment variables related to V-Ray that are set on the system globally. Also check the "mayaprefsfolder/maya.env". Check if the issue exists.
                    • Before using V-Ray locally make sure that no environment variables are pointing to the V-Ray version on the network location (better dismount the R: drive). Check the same if the environment variables are correctly set or there are no env variables pointing to another V-Ray zip installation Check if the issue exists.
                    • Check all the environments that are set on the Deadline machines and make sure they're compatible with V-Ray Next and are not for V-Ray 3
                    • Make sure that all deadline clients are using the same version of V-Ray
                    Make some tests and let me know if this fixes the issue. Since this is the only way I've managed to reproduce the issue please check all your V-Ray installations and make sure that they are the same version. Also please try to reproduce the issue on another machine where only one type (regular or zip) is being used or even better V-Ray was never used there and check the result. It is enough one of the installations from all machines to be wrong version or not installed correctly and it will have this result. Let me know if this helps.

                      the space happened when pasting into here, its not in the maya.env file

                      thanks for the suggestions but just to clarify, we never use locally installed vray installations and we are only using 1 version of vray across all machine on the farm. this is the reason why we use the zip install as all machines are pointing at the same folder etc

                      that said, i am no longer trying to resolve the issue across the farm machines, only locally when running a batch render. i can render correctly in the VFB but when I Batch Render (Render > Batch Render) vray renders a black frame.

                      I am really stuck, would it be best to arrange a team viewer session with someone?

                      Thanks
