  • Vray Next for Maya 2018.5 Render Settings Not Functioning on a Shared non-vray File

    I've run into this error before in the past where the render settings with Vray do not get setup properly and consequently appear missing, hidden or mulched in the render setting window in Maya 2018.5. But this time deleting the prefs folder does nothing, nor does the script:

    deleteUI -wnd unifiedRenderGlobalsWindow;

    buildNewSceneUI;

    When I open a shared file that someone else has worked on who doesn't use VRAY I get these errors.

    // Error: file: C:/Program Files/Autodesk/Maya2018/vray/scripts/vrayUIUtils.mel line 438: No object matches name: vraySettings.hideRVOn //
    // Error: file: C:/Program Files/Autodesk/Maya2018/vray/scripts/vrayCreateCommonGlobalsTab.mel line 544: Could not find attribute named "vraySettings.fileNamePrefix" //
    // Error: file: C:/Program Files/Autodesk/Maya2018/vray/scripts/vrayCreateGlobalsTab.mel line 747: Could not find attribute named "vraySettings.renderMaskTexture" //
    // Error: file: C:/Program Files/Autodesk/Maya2018/vray/scripts/vrayCreateIndirectIlluminationTab.mel line 67: No object matches name: vraySettings.giOn //
    // Error: file: C:/Program Files/Autodesk/Maya2018/vray/scripts/vrayCreateSettingsTab.mel line 359: No object matches name: vraySettings.sys_distributed_rendering_on //
    // Error: file: C:/Program Files/Autodesk/Maya2018/vray/scripts/vrayCreateOverridesTab.mel line 1417: Could not find attribute named "vraySettings.cam_envtexBg" //
    // Error: file: C:/Program Files/Autodesk/Maya2018/vray/scripts/vrayCreateGlobalsTab.mel line 594: No object matches name: vraySettings.productionEngine //
    // Error: file: C:/Program Files/Autodesk/Maya2018/vray/scripts/vrayCreateRTTab.mel line 13: No object matches name: vraySettings.rt_traceDepth //

    How can I make this function properly?

    Getting rid of some unused vray materials on the original reference helped, and the original reference file is fine, but the scene that references it still has issues with the common tab.

      Could you give us more details regarding your issue?

      Could you tell us what is the exact version of V-Ray that you are using?
      Does the issue occur only if you reference a scene?
      What would happen if you save the scene without referencing it and then open it with V-Ray?
      Is it possible to turn off Arnold(not to load it as a plug-in) before referencing the scene and tell us if the issue will be still present?
      It might be helpful to send us a test scene so we could try to reproduce the same results here on our side.

        Hi Nikolay,,

        I'm now getting messed up render settings across every tab with files that I receive from a co-worker. As mentioned he is not using V-Ray. The reference file was made by our rigger who had might have had VRay installed but he did not need it to complete his work and the reference file seems fine when opened on it's own.

        Turning off Arnold is ineffective as the document activates Arnold when you open it.

        Importing the reference file makes no difference.

        I am using V-Ray v4.04.03.00010 from Feb 25 2019.

        The file that has the issue seems to state that it using legacy render layers, but my co-worker is not using legacy render layers.

        I did send a link to the files in the email to Chaos Support.

        Thanks
        Greg

          Here is a solution if someone else encounters corrupted render settings when referencing other scenes:

          - Open the master scene and unloaded the reference file. (screenshot 1)
          - Delete all Arnold nodes and/or V-Ray settings node. (screenshot 2, 3)
          - Load V-Ray as a renderer. (screenshot 4)
          - Finally, load the reference again.
          - All V-Ray settings should be usable. (screenshot 5)
