The EXR files are not corrupt, it's a Photoshop problem since 2019. It works fine with Photoshop 2018. Adobe never fixed it and probably never will. Use ProEXR plugin instead.

Yeh we had the same problem recently from 2020 upgrades. Had to find a PC that wasnt in use with 2018 on it and use that as our PS comp stacker. There doesnt seem to be any rhyme or reason to which files work and which dont. We installed pro-exr here and it seems to have made the issues go away for now.

Again we cant use ProEXR it does not work with linked files.
And im sure it is a kind of corrupted file. Cause if you open the file with Nuke and resave it, the file does work.https://linktr.ee/cg_oglu

Hi,
I can confirm that EXR-IO resolved my problem. https://www.exr-io.com/
But you have to open the file by using the file open dialog and choose exr-io as file format (drag and drop doesn't work)
The same file opened fine with dj-view and xn view.
I spent some time online with the adobe support. The guy had to let me test several solutions before he linked me to exr-io.
really curious problem...

hi,
I had the same issue but even with exr-io is not worked.
i rended with modo an very large image (5m x 3m in 200 DPI ) , and to be able to render i must choose the "tiled EXR" to optimize the memory footprint (like it's explain on the v-Ray documentation)
but impossible to open an Tiled multi-channel EXR on Photoshop 2020 or AFX, (crash each time)
i succeed to open in photoshop 2018 , with the standard EXR, but only the color channell. and now i installed the fnord open exr plugin and it's seem's to load (finger's cross)
Have nice day.
Best Regards
Daniel

Hey, Daniel,
Thank you for the post. I think the file size is enormous, and the crash might be a memory issue and most likely check for cache size allocated for PS. This option is inside PS preference. Let me know what is the result.
