  • Vray Fur + OpenSubdiv Crash

    Vray Fur + OpenSubdiv crashes Maya when a length texture is used as a fur input. Strange.

    Make object. Add fur. Add length texture. Add opensubdiv attributes to shape.
    Render.
    Crash.

    If length texture is removed it doesn't crash.

    If OpenSubdiv attribute is removed it doesn't crash.

    Can anyone try this and see if it is a bug?

    Hello,

    I am looking into this problem and can not reproduce it. Is it possible for you to attach a scene and/or video, with which you are able to reproduce the crash?
    Also can you write down your specs if possible?

        I couldn't reproduce in a fresh scene. Going to see if I can isolate objects and reproduce in the source scene file.

          Here's a simplified version of the scene that crashes...

          VRay WILL crash maya if the fur "BunnyFurBody" is made visible.
          or
          VRay will NOT crash if fur is visible and OpenSubdiv attributes are removed from BunnyMeshShape.
          or
          VRay will NOT crash if fur is visible BUT BunnyMesh_vrayFurProperties has the length texture removed. (Note: I switched the texture to a simple checker so I didn't have to send those... same issue occurs.)

          Each time it crashes on "Compiling Geometry".

          Must be some weird connection between OpenSubDiv and Fur Length causing the error.

            Hello again,

            I looked into the crash and indeed I managed to crash the scene with V-Ray nightly and stable builds 4.30.02 and 4.30.03 before the 20th of June. However, when I tried with builds after that date, I could not reproduce the crash again.
            Is it possible for you to check with builds after this date?
            If the problem is still reproducable we will have further look into it.

              I can't now because I am mid production on several things, but I guess it is taken care of, so that is positive! I'll try to update to another build after wrapping up.
