  • Toon Shader & Opacity map, possible issue?

    Hello,

using an opacity map in the VrayToon shader to limit geometry borders doesn't seem to be working properly.
Per say, if you have a square plane, and a circular opacity map, the Toon Outline will still be calculated on the translucent geometry borders and not on the opaque area.

Is this working as intended or is this a bug?

And how would you achieve outlining the visible geometry, only? I can't seem to be able to do this.

    Using V-Ray 5.00.21 , under Maya 2020.

    Thanks alot!

The Toon effect works as intended and depends on the geometry borders, it is not a bug, You would need to modify your geometry to get correct outlines. Would it help if there was a functionality to generate a new mesh based on an opacity map?

      Hello Aleksandar,

that would be perfect - specifically what we're trying to achieve. I'm mainly looking to limit the outline to the opacque portion of the geometry. I assume there is no way that can be achieved right now?

      Thanks alot

At this point, you would need to modify the geometry.

          Hello,

The ability to generate a new mesh based on the opacity map is available and could be used as a workaround in this case.

Feel free to take a look at the Opacity Cutout Documentation page.

          Regards,

          Viktor
