Vrayobjectproperties set does not work in RenderLayer

Using vrayobjectproperties set with RenderLayer's Collection does not work properly.
What's wrong?

Confirmed with V-Ray 5.1 with Maya 2022, 2020

Are vray object props meant to work that way? I mean, theyre defined as sets, but Ive always assumed I needed to actually add the geo to a collection also.

The collection of geometry does indeed work.
What I want to make sure is that this operation works fine in Maya 2018.
(A customer of ours who migrated from Maya 2018 to Maya 2022 reported this issue.)

It does not work in Maya 2019 or later.

Is this a problem on Maya's side?

Indeed, it does work on Maya 2018. I've logged the issue (internal bug-tracker id: VMAYA-10793) for developer investigation.
