  • Vray layered texture and displacement error

I spent ages trying to get this to work with vray layered texture, and maybe Im just doing something wrong, but it ended up working just fine with maya layered texture.

What Im trying to do is layer displacement image maps into one file. One layer is a marble rock texture and is subtle...the other layer is an image with a text logo. I want the text logo to push far into the rock, while the rock displacement itself is mild. I made a black and white texture for the logo, and put that through an HSV remap and dropped the black value to -10. In my mind, this would allow me to multiply on the text logo onto the rock map, and control the logo depth using the HSV value. This does not work at all as far as I can tell with the vray layered texture, but works fine with the maya one, with exactly the same setup.

I'm getting similar results using both methods. Could you attach a simple scene and some screencaps? Also, which V-Ray do you have installed?

Here's a ink to a google drive file. One rock asset works with maya layered shader, the other I couldnt get to work with Vray layered,

Thanks for the provided scene. It seems the issue is caused by the way the "Automatic Displacement Bounds" handles the layered textures. I've logged the issue (internal bug-tracker id: VMAYA-11580) for developer investigation. You can create identical results by switching to Explicit boundaries and setting the min/max values manually (-10, 1 in your case).

Thanks for taking a look. Ive never used the explicit boundaries option before so didnt think to problem solve using that. Cheers!
