  • USD: Strange Geometry Clipping

Hello, I have this pipe rack geometry that was generated inside of Houdini and exported as a USD asset. When it is brought into Maya, either via MayaUSD or Bifrost, I get these very strange clipping artifacts when I try to render the whole asset. It's as if V-Ray is confused about depth sorting or something. When I hide the other components (supporting beams, pipe flanges) and render only the pipes, everything appears fine. The asset also renders normally with V-Ray for Houdini when I reference it back into Solaris.

I can upload the asset to a Chaos server if you guys provide a link.

    Hi there,

I'll send you the details in a DM.
It will help to know the V-Ray, Maya and MayaUSD versions you're using.

Just updating this thread in case anyone runs into something similar in the future.
The issue ended up being unrelated to USD, as alembics displayed the same problem. Instead it seems like V-Ray for Maya did not like the pipes being one large (as in unit size) piece of geometry. Once I separated the pipes into smaller segments, everything was fine.
