  • V-Ray 6, VRayScatter, Maya 2023 - No luck with Deadline

Might be a long shot but is anyone successfully using the combination of Maya 2023.3, V-Ray 6, and VRayScatter over Deadline?

We are using the latest VRayScatter 4.619 release and everything works fine when rendering locally in Maya. However when we submit scenes to Deadline we get this error:
V-Ray error: Extra attributes file "C:\Program Files\Autodesk\Maya2023\plug-ins\vrayscatter\shaders\*_attributes.txt" was not found.

In fact, installing VRayScatter 4.619 causes every node on the farm to spit out this error, regardless of whether the scene contains any VRayScatter nodes or not. We've been using the plugin for several years now with different Maya, V-Ray, and Deadline versions and have never encountered this issue before. We are not doing anything different so it would be great to know if everything is peachy for other folks or if someone else has ran into this as well.

    Thank you.

Hi, yes, we ran into the same issue. If you submit a scene without specifying VRay as the render engine and instead set it to "File" it will work fine.
Furthermore, this is what we heard from iCube on the matter: "technical department sent the following:
"They have to check the value of VRAY_FOR_MAYA_SHADERS and set it to correct value if needed"
"are they sure VRAY_FOR_MAYA_SHADERS+:=shaders has + in their setup (and not overriding the value like VRAY_FOR_MAYA_SHADERS:=shaders) ?"
I did not get around testing this, though...

k_18, thanks a million for the workaround! We had received the same response from iCube, and quite frankly I have no idea how to troubleshoot this. We are not modifying the above variable anywhere.
Thank you again, as this was becoming a major hurdle with no nice alternatives.

More than happy to help - will post how to edit the ENV as per iCube's support as well, later.
