  • Vray SubD's do not work on Geometry cached objects

I am trying to render Vray SUBD's on an object that has maya geometry cache. When I render in Vray the subDs are not generated. Is this a bug?

It should work... can you get us a scene for this to vraymaya@chaosgroup.com ?

    Best regards,

I figured it out. Vray will not render SubD's on an object that is skinned to an animation rig, or if it has geometry cache attached.

I realize this is an old post, but is this in fact true and did this issue ever get resolved? I am trying to solve some render issues and want to rule this out if its not a current problem. Thanks.

Not a problem. Our entire workflow is built around maya caches and subdivs. We specify the max subdivs per object group to be at 2 or 3. There is another issue with having more than 256 caches + many textures where there is a file handle problem, but Chaos came up with a workaround available in the nightly builds of v2.

Yeah, this was resolved for me... Forgot how, but it was a long time ago.. Perhaps a build fix? I don't remember.
