  • Somethign in the newer builds is permanently corrupting older scenes

I know these builds are experimental and are always WIP. But just a warning to the devs that something in the newer V-Ray builds (specifically latest one) seem to be permanently corrupting Maya 2011 scenes.

What happens is that as soon as you open the scene Maya will crash before you can do anything to rescue it. However reverting back to a build in October, opening the same scene it seems to be fine.

This also happens on a number of scenes not just the one. I'm not sure what V-Ray parameter/shader/object is causing it, but I have a feeling it could be related to the new proxy cache parameter.

I think this because I reverted back to an October build, opened the problem scene and deleted all shaders in the scene. Then I installed the Nov 10th build. Open the scene and it was fine!

So it could possibly be related to shaders and or the proxy "cache" option.

    Cheers.

Thanks for the pointer - is it possible to get us a crashing scene so that we can fix this? It will be very helpful.

    Best regards,
    Vlado

We also were having odd crashing problems with the new builds. We also thought they were corrupting. I know there was a lightlinking issue, where a scene opened on an older build would render fine, but opened on a new build would have all light links broken, and render black. We fixed this problem tho, by deleting Maya preferences. So my theory was that something in the newer builds had an effect on Maya prefs, or the act of continually installing new builds on this machine willy-nilly may have corrupted my prefs, or I just corrupted my own damn prefs So try clearing that out and see if your scenes open.

Ok, in either case, would it be possible to get a scene that has issues?

        Best regards,
        Vlado

          Hi Vlado,

I have sent the scene into the vraymaya email. Apologies in advance with the filesize (I have uploaded onto our website as a 54mb zipped file).

Thanks Andrew, simply reverting back to the older builds is all okay though!

The bug is fixed with revision 13416. You must wait for the new build, or just fix the paths to the vrmesh files. The crash is with vrmesh files that can't be loaded and are in preview mode. It's good that you catch that.

Ah, that would make sense! Thank you very much.

Confirmed. The fix works with the latest builds.

Thank you once again as I thought the scene was gone forever! You guys are the most professional devs!
