  • Multimatte - Primary Visibility Off

    Linux Fedora, Maya 2011:

When using a multi matte on a transparent object (Refraction: Affect Channels-->All Channels) and turning off primary visibility on an object behind, the multi matte also deletes that information.

Any way to get around ?

Primary visibility off but keeping the object behind the transparency in the multi matte ?

    thx

Having exactly the same problem here. I need to use a matte from an gradient plate behind glass.
    • Primary visibility is off for the gradient plate, visible in refractions ON.
    • Works perfectly for RGB_Color, but multimatte channel is invisible.
    • Affect All Channels is ON on glass.

** edit: Workaround: Set Primary Visibilty to ON, set VrayMaterialOverrides ON
insert Material (wrapper+VratMtl in my case) with Opacity 0 in V-Ray Material slot.
insert Material to be shown and Mutlimatte in Refraction Material slot.
Not really a "workaround" as such I guess, but probably the proper way to do it. Not to self: shhh... never admit you were wrong, they'll never notice.
