Someone already did the integration of Vray in Houdini here :

We used a lot the ply2vrmesh with Houdini and it worked very well, Teodor did a great job.

I'm posting this for a college that are having some issues regarding this very same subject.

      Hi,

I am converting bgeo's to vrmesh files via ply2vrmesh.
When converting a sequence into a single vrmesh file everything works as advertised.
However, if I try to create a vrmesh file per bgeo file, the motion blur stops working.

Anyway to get around this? (I'm trying to avoid having a single 100 gig vrmesh file).

Which V-Ray version is this? It is supposed to be fixed in newer builds of V-Ray for Maya (but still won't work in 3ds Max).

        Best regards,
        Vlado

Seems like it is a user error and not a bug! Sorry about that.

Would be nice to see Vray for Houdini. I've switched over to it completely for final scenes. Using Modo to model, another package with no Vray. With H12 coming out soon I think I'll have even less reason to use other packages.

I do miss some of the rendering methods Vray is able to bring. However, Mantra is really great and very versatile. There is a Maxwell plugin and there are talks of an Arnold translator. Vray is another tool I'd like to be able to employ when needed but unfortunately can't off the shelf. May seem overkill to have all these rendering engines but they all have strengths and weaknesses.
