  • Substance textures in Maya2012

The Repeat UV when tiled is turned on for substance textures does not tile correctly.

Also, will it be possible to have Vray shaders show up in viewport 2.0? Its a big pain having to create a maya shader for preview.

    Thanks!

My bad. Looks like it does Repeat correctly.. I was thrown off by the watermark for the substance bitmap.

Changing resolution of the substance texture does seem to crash a lot while plugged into the Vray Shader, and I always have to turn the shader update to off.

Here is a test using substance for displacement and bump. Regular file read for diffuse. Substance seems pretty cool for bump and displacement with vray.

I also noticed that VFB is broken when you try to save an image. It won't save for me, and the only file format it listed was png.

So I have been exploring this a bit more and it seems that everytime I adjust anything in the Vray shader it really locks things up while a new data index is generated when in RT-CPU. Is the substance texture being conveted everytime I adjust the shader?

        Here's the file:

Also, the physical camera doesn't render correctly when adjusting in RT. The moment you cancel RT and do a non RT render everything is over exposed.

Which build are you using? There are some fixes for substance textures in general and Viewport 2.0 support in Beta 3.

Yep, we need to obtain the new bitmap from the Substance shader. To make things worse, this operation cannot be multithreaded because of a limitation of the Maya API.

Which V-Ray version? Seems to work fine here.

          Best regards,

I am using Beta 3 in Windows Maya2012.

Strange.. If I start IPR, add physical camera, set motion camera adjust Aperture settings, then turn on DOF, as soon as I stop IPR then do a render, its definitely not the same. Almost like RT ignores the FPS calculation for Physical camera.

Yeah, the stock substance textures seem to run just fine, but self made ones like in the rar file bog down a lot. If I am adjusting reflection color etc, it really needs to reconvert to bitmap? hmm Yeah, the max resolution of 2048 is so 90's. Still very useful stuff.

Pardon the intrusion on this interesting post, but I just wanted to mention that Beta 3 on OS X 10.6.7 (maya 2012) crashes when I add the diffuse node from a Substance material onto a VrayMtl. It will render a standard Maya Substance material (phong) just fine though.

I can't reproduce your problem, can you send me a scene?

Thanks, I can reproduce the problem with your scene (probably the sun/sky is causing the problem, I've to dig more to be sure).

                      Hi Metzger,

I've fixed both of the problems you've reported and the fixes are in Vray2.0.
Can you test the substance textures and tell me if there are any problems with them?

                        Hi Hellobard,

I've reproduced your problem and we will see what we can do to fix it.

It seems that something is broken in the official/final VRay 2.0, but the latest nightly seems to be working fine.
Can you try the latest nightly (rev >= 15220)?

Very glad to test this version me too
