Is it broke at the moment? I tried to overide the default maya hair shader and it wouldn't render. Also it doesn't look like the default maya hair shader recieves GI.

Maya Hair, V-Ray shader

I was experiencing the same thing a week ago.
I had some simulated hair rendering the default maya hair shader. Inside the shader attributes for the hairshape there is a hair color and a material override switch to plug in something different. I had the same results as Metzger and figured it was not supposed to work ???
Is there any way to connect a vray shader to maya's hair? Create PaintFX with a vray material or something?

By converting the particleFx to polys it should be possible to just throw a vray shader on the geometry (?).

But what you know, its still simulating and now I'm adding a vraymat with refraction properties to it and its loads of render fun
One more Maya related question though:
How can I add subdiv. on the polymesh I create from PFX?
Recently its an extruded Triangle with not enough subs along the Hair.
I would prefer a quad and more subs.
Any ideas?
