  • Viewport subdivision different when rendered

    Hi,

When rendering viewport subdivision in Maya 2011 with V-Ray 2.0, I sometimes get a different result than in the viewport. This happens most of the times when I am working with mirrowed geometry which have open edges. Is there a way to fix this? Click image for larger version

Do you have a crease on the common edge?
We can't implement creasing, because the algorithm is patented.

Yes, you can weld the vertices along the mirror plane after the mirror operation.

        Thanks for the replies.

@ t.petrov: by crease do you mean an edgeloop close to another which then makes the edge tighter in smoothing?

@ vlado: yep, merging the verts would work, however I sometimes mirror the geometry for preview purposes (to do a quick render to check reflections etc,) when I work symetrically. I mostly have pretty complex geometry, and would prefer to save the time welding verts all the time when I do a prevew render, and then undo all again. Id rather do it at the end.

I guess this is the only way to do it then?

I'm talking about the subdivision surface creases.
You can add one from the menu at: "Subdiv Surfaces->Full Crease Edge/Vertex" or "Subdiv Surfaces->Partical Crease Edge/Vertex".

Im not actually using subdivision surfaces, but use Polygons and do a viewport smoothing (pressing 3 on the selected poly)

Unfotunately for the moment this is the only work-around. I've made a note to fix this though.

              Best regards,
