  • Maya is crashing after rendering is done / aborted

    Hi,

we have some random crashes here after a rendering is done (rendering image 100%) or aborted. CPU usage is at 0% and Maya is not responding anymore. It's hard to tell what exactly is crashing maya but I attached a simple scene that crashes fairly often.

    1. Open the scene in maya
    2. Open the render view
    3. Right click on 'Redo previous render' and choose perspective camera

You can hit ESC after the framebuffer opened and the rendering started. If that doesn't crash maya, close the framebuffer and start again at point 2. with opening the render view. Sometimes it crashes after a few tries and sometimes it doesn't crash at all. It appears pretty random to me but hopefully you can reproduce the issue.

    Thanks,
    jan

    Hi,

Do you have any hotfixes or service packs for Maya installed? I've been clicking ESC for the past 10 minutes, but everything seems ok...

        Best regards,

              2012 Service Pack 2?

Audotdesk fixed a problem where Render View did not always pick up the renderer. Maybe it is connected if you are not on 2012 SP2

I'm on Maya 2012 Subscription Advantage Pack and haven't installed the new SAP Service Pack 1. I might have the time to try it this week.

I think this had to do with the VFB using the wxWidgets version; now we switched to the Qt version again, so hopefully it will improve stability.

                    Hi Vlado,
is this in the latest nightly? We have user with the same problem. I'll have hime to try the latest nightly.

                    Thanks,

I tested the nightly build 19056 from today but it doesn't fix it.

However it hasn't crashed here since I use the 'Render current frame' button directly from Maya's status line without opening the render view. But maybe it was just luck.

It might be better to try with the "stable_2.1" builds, but these aren't up yet for today.

                        Best regards,

                          Hi
                          I have the same problem.

randomly maya stops after finishing the rendering in VFB.

after ESC or completed rendering the last message in the outputwindow is

                          "[2012/Jul/12|12:22:21] V-Ray: Total time clearing exporter memory 0h 0m 0.0s (0.0 s)"

Do you start the render by right-clicking in the Maya render view to choose a camera?

                            Best regards,
                            Vlado

does your maya run fine otherwise? with mental ray/software, or just working in maya?

Not so long ago I had an issue where my maya was crashing very randomly, and very often. It was the fault of maya's auto-save believe it or not. After I disabled it, everything went fine.
