  • Maya crash on save after deleting lights in 2.25.01 nightly branch.

I've been running into a problem where if I delete a light in a scene and then click save, maya bombs out instantly. I've had this on a couple of scenes now and it seems to be involved with render layers from what I can tell.

If I switch to the 2.20.01 release build I don't have this problem. I need to use the 2.25.01 branch for this job because of the curl attr on vrayFur. Its not a show stopper as I can just hide the lights, but it'd be nice to figure out whats causing it.

    cheers
    Martin

EDIT: Should have said, running Fedora 12

Below is the maya.crash report that is generated.

Thanks for the pointer; can you get me a scene for this where we can reproduce this?

    Best regards,
    Vlado

I'm having some trouble producing a test scene that has the problem in.

It seems its actually to do with referencing and light linking from what I can tell. I've stripped my scene down to one reference object (a camera and some set geometry)

The problem light has had its light linking turned off on the set geo in the LightLinking editor. If I delete the light and save the scene, maya crashes. If I re-link the light to illuminate the set geometry, delete the light and save, maya is fine.

I'll carry on trying to produce a test scene for you, I started from scratch with a clean scene, loaded in the same reference, disconnected the light linking and saved the scene, then tried deleting the light but maya didn't crash....

      EDIT:

      Ok I think I have a re-producible crash test.

Load maya, create a reference (anything seems to work)
      Create a vray Rect light
Open the light linking editor and stop the rect light illuminating anything. Save maya.
Delete the light, click save and maya crashes

Thanks; I could not reproduce this right away, but I'll keep trying a bit more. If you have the time to make a screen capture it would be useful, if not we'll try a few more times here

Out of curiosity do you get the same issue with a Maya area light? Also, are you using Viewport 2?

        Best regards,
        Vlado

I've tested it with maya spotlights, vrayDomeLights and vrayRectLights. Happens on all of them. Not using viewport 2

Just heading out for lunch but will try and get some screengrabs or a crashing maya scene saved out this afternoon.

So it is a Maya bug if you have the same problem with maya spotlight.

Hmmm..... You might be right. I was convinced the only thing I'd changed was going from 2.20.01 to 2.25.01, and when I changed back to 2.20.01 it wasn't crashing, but it seems it now is, so I must have missed a step when I was testing 2.20.01.

Sorry for sending you on a wild goose chase vlado.

              EDIT:

Yeah it seems like a general maya bug, light linking with referencing crashes under certain circumstances, I'll log a bug with autodesk.

              Sorry again

Well just to make sure unload the V-Ray plugin and if you still get the issue then you can be certain that it's a Maya problem.

                Best regards,
                Vlado
