In order to help you, you'll have to tell us some important things like:
      1. What version of V-Ray for Maya are you using
      2. What version of Maya itself
      3. What OS

        Hi

im using vray 2.30.01 maya 2013 64 on windows 7

sometimes i get a .... windows application error / maya fatal error / and a runtime error (not to sure if its a windows or a maya error)

it crashes after about 3 or 4 minutes of playing with the shader settings. and always when im using one of the sliders.
i have tried everything including starting the whole project again from scratch.

Hm, It seems that there were some fixes made for this version about car paint crashes.

Can you contact our support at vraymaya @ chaosgroup.com, so they can try to help you?
Another option is to post the scene here and some description of the steps needed to reproduce the crashes.

            Thanks for the help

I have sent the scene to support but they cant replicate the problem. im getting the same problems when using a new scene and a sphere. i
im able to tweak for two or three minutes then it crashes.
are other versions of vray more stable?

Do you use an official build ?
If yes, use a nightly build. The official build is very very old (more than 1 years and some months).

Every day you have VRay builds, it is nightlies builds. Sometimes you have some unstability but, it is more and more stable than the official build.
And if you have an unstable build, you can install another nightly (from another day).

vray build is version of vray 1-1.5-2-2.xx etc etc like windows vista, 7, 8 etc etc

Lets put it this way. If you need urgent fixes and day to day updates with new features and corrections then you need nighties. - its for sort of more geeky users who dig deep in to vray.

If you just want to work on it and are starting up. Just stick to Vray 2.xx official release version. Its the savest - most stable option for you. As if you are new and something dont work the way you want it might be either build issue or your lack of knowledge. So stick to stables for now.

oh i see that's interesting... i need to do something about the car shader issue... so maybe i should use a nightly or go back a version to vray 2?

Can you give us more details on this?

For example - is it happening while you're running RT or just when you move the sliders in the attribute editor (no RT and no render at all)?

You mentioned that this also happens with a simple scene, can you gives more detailed steps about this?
