  • how to render blocky textures on purpose

    Hi there,

I'm trying to render out simple shapes with 32x32 textures on them. My intent is to actually show the blocky pixels in the render. However even when I turn off filtering in the file texture node Vray antialiases the texture. Turning off antialiasing globally doesn't help either.

I've attached a picture of the texture file, a cube with that texture in Viewport 2.0 and a vray render.

Can anyone suggest how I could make the render look more like the attached Viewport grab?

    Thanks,

    Ted

Add the V-Ray texture filtering attributes to the File node and set the texture filter to "Nearest".

      That worked perfectly. Thanks Vlado.

Okay here's a new issue - I just upgraded to Maya 2014 and downloaded Vray 2.4 from the nightly builds. The texture filtering attribute doesn't show up in the attributes->vray dropdown list for a file node. Am I missing something?

We have some issues with the 2.4 builds and this one might as well be one of them. Hopefully we'll have new builds that are not missing this attribute very soon.

For some reason this option is missing from the 2.4 builds, yes. We'll do our best to correct that soon.

Thanks Yolov. Standing by. Will you post here when a fix has gone in?

We've removed the 2.4 update from the web site for the time being. I will post in the Announcements section when there is something to download.

                Best regards,
                Vlado

Is there a build that works with Maya 2014? Thanks.

Do you have access to the nightly builds? I will put a stable_2.3 build for Maya 2014 there later today.

                    Best regards,
                    Vlado
