  • Cannot Shadow catch with VRay Material Wrapper

    Hi,
I have a dome light (sphere) with a texture using an HDRI image.
I've a plane that I would like to use to catch shadow, but I want the plane to be transparent, show only the hdri image through it and the shadows.
A Vray material wrapper has been assigned to the plane, with a matte surface and the shadows ticked. The base material of this wrapper is a simple VrayMtl.
However the plane appears as grey, instead of showing the hdri image below.
    Anything I do wrongly ?

    Thanks.

    Hi,

Do you have the same HDRI image set as background texture? If no, please try to add it.
I assume that the hdri texture is only added to the Dome light.

The V-ray wrapper material always shows the background color/image.

      Thanks Tashko.
I indeed had only the hdri image on the dome texture. I've now added it to the environment background, and the shadows indeed appear.
However the plane is darker than the rest of the environment. Any idea of what I should still tune ?

You have to set the same intensity value of your hdri between your dome light and the backgroung.
To do this, the technique is to set your dome light intensity to 1, and control the intensity with the color gain.

With this, you will have the same intensity for all.

          You're a king, thanks !!
Can you please let me know where to change this color gain ? I found it in the hdri image, but it is a color not a value, and it is white already. Thanks.
