  • ies select maya crash

    Hi,

    Maya2014 SP2, Vray3.0 (nightly from today).

select IES light in outliner or 3D window makes maya crash. I tried with "default quality render" or "viewport 2.0". tried it 3 times.
I have to specify that these IES lights were created with Vray2.4 (official build).

    can you reproduce ?

We couldn't reproduce this. Can you try this on another machine and if possible - send a video clip of this happening. Maybe we're missing something here.
        Thanks in advance.

Sorry, I had to revert to Vray2.4
I'm having too much problems since I try to use Vray3.0, I need to produce. I could hardly rely on Vray3.0. Maybe it's me and I need more time.

I'm sorry to hear that. We tried to reproduce this on a number of machines here on different Maya with different SP and a number of VRay 3.0 builds with no luck. I could add that no one else has complained about this. So any help in reproducing the issue will be helpful to us. Whenever you have more info you could share, please do.

            Thanks again.

                Hi Yolov,

I'm using Windows7 Pro SP1 on all nodes. I'm sorry also to revert, but I was loosing too much time. I'm really confused also that I seem to have problems that nobody has. Usually everything was just going fine here.
Could there eventually be something with Microsoft Visual C++ ??

                best,

                Olivier

I don't know, but I doubt it. Is that all that you do to make it crash - just open a fresh Maya and create a VRayIES light? I suppose you create it from Create > Lights > VRayIES?
Is VRay your default renderer? Is it set to auto-load with Maya? Is there any chance there has been some mix-up with 2.4 and 3.0 installations (where 2.4 didn't uninstall properly and left some files behind that got reused by 3.0 - this is highly unlikely, but I'm guessing here).

As I had this problem (again, just with build from Feb 17), I worked on a complete scene. After three crashes I tried to open a new scene and create a Vray IES (as you say), and it crashed.
Yes, Vray is the default renderer. I don't know if there could a mix up with 2.4, all I can say, after having my first problems with Vray3.0 (splotches and DR problem), I was very carefull installing and uninstalling (uninstall -> restart windows -> install -> restart windows)

I was asking about C++ as I noticed that when I went back to Vray2.4 it was asking to repair C++ install, and I have seen that there are different versions of C++ installed (2005,2008,2010,2012,2013)

The IES crash problem is not the main reason why I came back to Vray2.4, it was just one problem on top of the others.

                      C++ installs shouldn't cause problems.

OK, I think I finally got this one, it required a bit different steps on my end but I got it.
I'm logging this to our bug tracking system and I'll let you know when this is fixed.

In the meantime, would it be convenient if you sent me a list of your issues with V-Ray 3.0 so we can dig a bit deeper into those? Whenever you have the time, I'm at alexander.yolov@chaosgroup.com
