  • Wrapper and multiple lights

Hi, or mayday I sould say.

I'm stuck for hours with the wrapper when there is more than one light (Maya 2015/Vray 3.15.01)

In the joined pict I've put the scene config : a plan as floor, a box as wall, a toilet as a shadow caster and two rect light
The wall get the wrapper and as you see on the pict the second light alters the shadow in the alpha (it works perfectly with only one rect light)

    Help ! please.

    PS :
Just tried same scene with maya 2014/Vray 2.4 it works perfectly !

      HI,
okay, fyi : I've tried to get the shadows with the matte shadow render pass but was same problem as alpha pass but in this case I resolved it by lowering subdivision in the ligths from 8 to 200 it's okay but after 200 the second created light in the scene begins to substract other shadows (if subdiv is set over 200 on the first created light ...it works) ! very nasty bug

(To get the shadows on the alpha I've tried with the wrapper or the vray object properties matte settings , the result is identical.)

Yes, seems like it has something to do with the light subdivs - our devs will look into it and will find the reason.

You are right, this issue is subdivision dependent and affect the shadows in the RE also. The only work-around for now is lowetring the light subdivs if possible...

ah that sucks! does anyone know if this works? (if subdiv is set over 200 on the first created light ...it works)

I've run into this issue as well. I've been able to get it to work by increasing the max subdivs in the image sampler or by using the progressive sampler as well.

This is a pretty major bug and has caused us a lot of problems on the last few jobs we've done. Is it anywhere near being fixed yet?

                    Kind regards

Great to hear this is issue is of high priority to solve. We worked on a project after upgrade to 3.0 and had the same issue. Didn't have the time to figure it out and glad we found this thread where people raise the issue.
Please keep us posted when this is addressed.

It looks like this is still an issue in v-ray 3.1.. Is there an ETA for the fix?

We cannot provide ETA. The priority is already raised to high but it is not fixed yet.
There is a simple workaround, just set all light subdivisions on 1 and the issue will disappear.
The above change of course will make the shadows very noisy but you could remove the noise by the Image Sampler using Universal Settings:
