  • Disappearing obects while network rendering

    Hello there.

This has been several weeks now that we have use Vray in my company, and things are going pretty well. However, there is a bug I haven't been able to fix.

Here's a brief setup of my workflow :
    - workstation has maya 2015 and vray3
    - 6 render slaves who have only vray3 standalone
    - render manager is Renderpal

I have a simple animation where a object (a simple cup) flies in the air and then vanishes (animated visibility). Rendering in local shows no problem, but when I render it through our renderfarm, this cup is missing. Note that there is also another mesh having this bug with another material, but I focused on the cup for the debugging proccess.

    Here's what I tried :
    - exporting/reimporting the cup as an .obj : no change
    - changing the visilibity keys : no change
    - changing the material : no change
    - attributing the material of the cup to a newly created cube : the cube and the cup are showing!
I was happy, I moved the cube somewhere far out of my camera angle and rendered my animation : the cup is missing again ...

Since I have to export my animation as a .vrscene for the render slaves to render it, I wonder if somehow the vrscene export could mismatch the meshes and cause it to disappear.
Well I had to ship the anim so I rendered the faulty part in batchrender and thought it was just a random rare bug. But then my colleague complained that he had the exact same bug a week after, so I decided to report it here. I checked the threads, I haven't seen any similar situtation.

I hope this is not too confusing to read.

Can you post/send a scene that can be used to reproduce the problem?

          Hello,

We can't seem to reproduce it in here. Do you use a single vrscene file to render the scene. Also if you keep logs with what commands did you run the render will be useful.

          Thank you,

            Hello,

Thank you for your time. It is the .vrscene that you tested to render, or you tried directly from the .mb?

Yes, we use a single vrscene to render all the frames. We did not use any specific command via Renderpal, just indicated the frame range, output file and path.
Just before sending you the .zip I tried rendering the linked vrscene again with renderpal, the bug was there, meaning no cup in render images.

As I have more time, I'll try to run some additional tests to see if I can find what is causing the bug.

Can you show us the log from renderpal?
What command is executed, what is the output of V-Ray?

Here are the logs from renderpal. I saved it every 25 frames (chunk of 5), with more precision when the cup appears/disappears.

We managed to reproduce it. I logged it into our bug tracking system and our developers will look into it.

                  Thank you for the cooperation.
