  • Oculus Rift and Vr video rendering

    Hi,
at my company were currently developing VR video.
The process goes from capturing a 360 video and displaying on the oculus rift, using game engines.
I've successfully created 3D render videos of maya using Arnold render, scripted Oculus rift camera, with does a Lat-long Stereo render.
On v-ray I was trying to do it, using dome camera using a 360 FOV and using stereo , it render but it not correct.

For example if I map a sphere with a checker board texture, and if I do a latlong stereo map render of it, i expect a perfect checker render out of it.

Using V-ray i could reproduce this result
I got a warped image, that looks like a fish eye lens.

On v-ray 3.2 for 3dsmax you guys presented stereo spherical panorama and cubic maps.
Both solutions will work on the oculus rift.

Wen can i get access to it?
I really need it ASAP, as v-ray is a crucial part of our rendering pipeline.

Here's the maya file for this in case is just a question of settings, but it looks that we still dont have this on v-ray for maya .

    Thank you.

This is coming up for Maya, too. It will be available in the next service pack.

Tashko from the chaos group support also give me answer.
      Using the nightly build.
That gave me already a perfect solution.

Love you guys, not just because V-ray is amazing, but specially it's amazing client support.

Can anyone explain me if I had to apply this mapping back to a sphere , what uv layout would I get?
Can anyone give me a sphere obj with this mapping applied to it?

Besides than that, why is the v-ray render , looks distorted on the very edges of the image?
Arnold does it completely flat, and i've tried octane and it does it flat also.

        Thank you

As always chaos group as an answer for everything , and a quick one!

So the problem was the sphere itself didn't have enough detail.
Getting more RES on the sphere got the perfect result!

          Thanks guys!
