    maya 2016 Ext 1 + SP4 Vray 3.1 SP1

    I am trying to do a simple matte surface shader for compositing, but I am getting really strange results. I have tried both the wrapper and the object properties method. I've placed a base material into the wrapper, turned on matte surface, changed alpha contribution to -1, turned on shadows and affect alpha. I believe that is all correct, however when I do this, I get bright spots in my shadow in areas where it should be the darkest. HOWEVER, when I am using ipr or progressive, I do not see this behavior, only in the other image samplers.

    Take a look at the attached image. It is of the alpha channel. It includes 2 vray area lights only, a floor and an object. The image on the right is what I believe I should be getting, and the one on the left is what I am getting, which looks very odd when compositing over a plate. I have also attached the scene that these images came from, in case anyone would like to take a look.

    Does anyone know what is going on or what I am doing wrong? Thank you so much for any help or clarifications!

      This is a bug which has been already reported into our system.
      It could be resolved by decreasing lights subdivisions to 1, this of course will introduce some noise which could be resolved with better Image Sampler settings.

      Can you post the other thread you've found?
      I've tried to find it but I'm not sure I found the same thread.
