  • Bake with V-Ray fails with DR

When attempting to use Distributed Rendering when baking textures, I get black boxes from the DR nodes. Standard rendering from a persp window or camera works just fine.

Even setting up a simple scene with a sphere and a single light has this issue. Is baking via DR unsupported right now?

    V-Ray 3.10.01, Maya 2016 SP5, Mac OSX 10.10.3

    Thanks!

We did a few test in here but we didn't manage to reproduce the issue. Would it be possible to attach vray log files (temp folder) from both machines.

No problem. Where do the logs live now? I thought the were supposed to be in /tmp.

Ended up setting VRAY_FOR_MAYA_LOG_FILE_PATH=/tmp in Maya.env to get the log output on my local machine. The attached log file is from Maya startup, standard DR of the persp view, and then DR of Bake with V-Ray.

As for the DR node, I tried setting VRAYSL_LOG_FILE_PATH to several different locations which I know to be writeable but nothing was ever written out. I noticed that, in addition to rendering black boxes, the DR window hangs at 100% completion and I have to hit Escape before I can kick off another render. Perhaps that's why the log file is never written.

I've also attached the Maya scene I'm using for testing. Just in case it's useful.

I think dr does not work in bake with vray UI, it only works in regular render when you change the bake engine from none to bake.

            Hi,

I'm posting just to confirm what Dimitry said. The baking engine from Lighting/shading > Bake with V-Ray doesn't support DR.
But should work this way :

Thanks for the info Tashko and Dmitry.

I'm baking out some massive textures (4K and higher resolution) so I was really hoping to leverage the entire farm. Ah well, at least I can send the task to one of the render nodes and keep my workstation free.

              Thanks!

You can still do that though. If you need help send me a pm and I'll provide you with a scene.

Yes, the Render Setting baking also supports GPU rendering.

That sounds fun! Is this in the 3.3 update? I just downloaded it 5 minutes ago.

It's in 3.1 also by using the RT engine.
