  • IOR with GGX bug

if i plug IOR map to ior slot and i change reflection mode to GGX its sometimes creating stragne black artifacts around edges of object in render time. it's random sometimes happens sometimes not and ii never saw it in blinn, phong or ward. i think it's only happens in GGX and sometimes its dissapears if i tweak around randomly but couldnt find what solves that problem. is it known bug and anybody have a solution?

It sounds like a bug. Do you have a scene that has the problem, even if appears randomly?

    Best regards,

UPDATE: it is also strongly related to bump/normal map i think. because black artifacts dissapearing when i lower the bump multiplier below "1"

Yeah it looks like the normals have been pushed too far, and GGX might be a bit more sensitive for that.

i noticed something. i was changing materials' brdf types because of GGX showing that black artifacts and to compare different BRDFs and i returned back to GGX and now artifacts gone in the materials i cycled BRDF type :S even in extreme angles there is no artifacts lol.. i dont know if it's random or not but if you can guys think of why it's gone, at least i can use this workaround till you guys fix this. will try in future scenes too.

Good to know you've found a way to workaround the issue but it is still a good idea to send us the scene for investigation since this might be a bug in the software.

i already sended the scene in earlier reply. it's not scene specific btw. and also workaround is random solution. it's still happening. just wanted to update.

No need to upload the file again, someone already reported that issue as a bug and the scene is attached to it.
We'll get back to you when we have some progress about it.
