  • Problem rendering scene on Linux

    Hi,

We have noticed that we are getting more and more scenes which cannot render on Linux (but render fine on Windows).

I'm attaching two log files; one for Linux and one for Windows:
https://mega.nz/#F!v4IWTRqa!Eat8oiLW_xsa5l09SCQvDg (too large to be attached in the forums)

These are for the very same rendering. Notice how the linux log is over 4000 lines long while the Windows log is around 900 lines long. To me it seems that something is unoptimized with Linux. Also it seems the issue is only hit during light cache calculation.

This is when using V-Ray 3.40.06 stable build 27040 with Maya 2016 Extension 1 + SP5. Do you see what could be wrong here?
I'm assuming the render crashed because the machine was running out of RAM (hence error code 137).

I can upload the Maya project with scene files if needed.
    Best Regards,
    Fredrik

There is a noticeable difference for sure. Can you please send us a scene to check?

      Hi Yordan,

I'm preparing the Maya projects and are now uploading them. I'll email support@ separately and refer to this form thread.
      Best Regards,
      Fredrik

          Hi again,

It seems Mega is quite slow for me today. Perhaps it'll be wiser to upload all of this data (15 GB) to your FTP?

Could you please post the FTP account details here to email them to fredrik.averpil [AT] industriromantik.se ?
          Best Regards,
          Fredrik

I'm sending an email to support@ as soon as the FTP transfers are done.

I also want to mention a RAM-exhaustive issue we experienced but which we never sent over to you: http://forums.chaosgroup.com/showthr...-out-of-memory
It's possible that the information in that thread could be of use here (or not). I have the scene here and can send that over as well, although all render logs are gone. I'll also mention this in my email to support.
                Best Regards,
                Fredrik

Oh, yes, please send the second scene (the ram-hungry denoiser) too. It'll be great to have them both. thanks!

Hi, just wanted to check in and see if you've managed to repro the issues or have any idea on what could be the root cause?

I managed to crash V-Ray by rendering overnight, but didn't find anything significant yet. Will keep you updated.
