  • Environmental Material Override in Vray Maya

    Hello!

I am trying to alter the reflection of the metal bulldozer blade in the attached photo. As it is concave it picks up the sky too much on the bottom part of it. So I am thinking I would do an environmental override on the material reflecting a flipped version of the light dome. I'm thinking this should be possible without using render layers. I've added the Vray material override, but when I plug the file into the environmental material override of the blade material and it doesn't change anything. Obviously I am not doing something right here. Maybe a Rayswitch would work better, but I don't really know how that works either as Vray & Maya is new to me. I also need to UV map the metal blade with paint that is scraped away to form the exposed bulldozer blade, so I'll be figuring out that one too!

    Thanks in advance!

It should not require anything else than adding the "V-Ray material override" attribute, and then plugging a file node in the "Environment override" slot. Could you share the scene? Or strip it down so it only contains the object that you're trying to override?

      [2020/Sep/25|12:31:17] V-Ray: V-Ray Next for Maya, update 2.2 version 4.30.02 from Apr 15 2020, 17:57:22

I have the same issue, it does not work for me. It is a simple scene with one hdr, the sphere has a vray material wit material overrides. In the environment slot there is a second hdr. Shouldn't I see the the hdr in the env slot?

my fault, ok its working, I couldn't find anything about the environment override. It does not replace a HDR dome but the Background texture in the render settings, confusing
