  • Vray proxies are locked once loaded

    Hi,
I just noticed that Vray proxy files on the server are locked once a Maya file that loads them is open. This is not the case with other files that are loaded by a Maya scene (textures, vrscenes, referenced Maya files).

If a Maya File with proxies is open, the proxy files can not be overwritten on disc.
If a user tries to overwrite a proxy that is locked, it failes without error message.

This makes the whole Vray proxy workflow more tedious since people need to close scenes if a proxy needs to be updated.

I am not sure if this is caused by Vray or Maya but since other files are not locked my bet is on Vray.

    Cheers, Florian

I can't reproduce this. Does it happen locally on the machine? Which V-Ray and Maya version are you using?

      I am using:
      Maya 2017 Update 4
      Vray 3.6.00.2
      Windows 10

The Maya scenes and the proxy files are stored on our fileserver (Windows Server 2012 R2).
The files are loaded via UNC path. \\SERVER\path\to\file\
All files are within the Maya project directory structure.

It happens when one colleague opens a Maya scene which loads a Vray proxy. That proxy file is now locked and can not be overwritten or deleted.

      Hope the info helps.

      Cheers, Florian

Is your colleague rendering during the overright process of the proxy? Or he only opens the scene? Could you please check is someone else is not rendering the scene at the same time? Can you reproduce this issue on a new scene?
