  • V-Ray Material Override Addition

Is it possible to add this attribute to the V-Ray material override on the SG node?

A lot of V-Ray plugins produce pure black representations in the Maya viewport and other shaders are quite dark. I think this would be able to improve things if this addition were possible.

    Cheers.

I don't think it can be done in this way unfortunately. The viewport display is property of the material itself - it has no way to know if it has been overridden with something else. Will try to think of something else though... Out of curiosity, which materials are black/darker in the viewports? Might be easier to fix these issues rather than coding an override.

    Best regards,

Yes, that makes sense now that you have explained it. Thank you Vlado.

The materials that are black/darker in the viewport are just basically highly reflective metals and anything else with a really low diffuse level. (which is really what you would expect I guess).

It's not a big deal though as I can just pipe the VrayMtl through a Blend Mat (which itself has a viewport colour slider so I can override the viewport).

      Cheers.

[The other thing that was affecting the viewport colours was gamma correct nodes (but this is now fixed with the "Bitmap input gamma" which I just discovered - thank you for this feature. ]
