  • Aim for areaLight

    Really not a big thing, just a nice-to-have feature.

    Maya area lights have an aim when you click on the "show manipulator" tool in the left toolbar. This is handy, because your light always aims at the right spot when you translate it. It would be nice to have this for vrayLights, too. Nothing serious, just a little helper.

        Another thing, that I think would be quite useful would be to have an opacity map option in the texture section.
        This would allow to map a texture in the area light and map another texture in the opacity map that will define the transparency of the area light.
        I map a lot of ramps in the area light to control the shape of the light, however in the object reflecting the light I can see the square shape of the light.

        Thanks,

          The alpha of the texture determines the transparency, so you can use that.

            Thanks Vlado.
            It might be good to add a note in the help about it.

              Would it be possible to expose the connection for the alpha channel. This would allow to connect a different image to control the transparency.

              Thanks,

                I just use a mel script from my marking menu for aiming V-Ray rect lights. select your object, then your light and run this:

                aimConstraint -offset 0 0 0 -weight 1 -aimVector 0 0 -1 -upVector 0 1 0 -worldUpType "vector" -worldUpVector 0 1 0;

                  Thanks beige. The easiest way would possibly be to just constrain the light to a locator. But the standart maya way would also be handy.

                    Hi,

                    We implemented in vray 3.0 beta the "Show Manipulator" tool (T hotkey) for VRay Rect and IES lights and you can check it out in the next nightlies (march 2014). It works just like the one for Maya's Area light
