hey, so did anyone get refraction to work with zdepth? Doesn't seem to work for me. (I basically just ticked "affect all channels" for refraction and rendered a z-depth render element)
    thanks!

    update:
go it. turns out you need to have filtering turned on

      Heya,

finally some time to test this new feature.

      Would it be possible to spilt all 3 elements into RGB? R = normal Z; G = reflection Z; B = refraction Z;
Our physical correctness Artist (comper) asked for this 2000000 times now

      Thanks in advance

I would point out that even when the background is DOFed out and blurry, the things inside refractions are still clear:

Yes, in fact it is... will work on that. I'm just worried about compatibility with older scenes.

          Best regards,

older scenes will still work, if not the only thing a comper would need to do is switch his DOF pass to only one of the RGB channels.
Not a big problem I think

can it be another render element rather then replace of the original zdepth?

Not a problem. Sometime it is better to "break" something.
Change the Z renderElement is not a "big change", so, no problem for me also.

This might conflict with conventions in file formats (mainly EXR), which can lead to inconsistencies or channels not being autodetected. Might want to check that first. What's the problem with more renderelements btw? It's not like you need excel to manage your elements .

Hehe, excel. No I do have a nice written tool to deal with my passes, so having a new one is surely no real problem.

The thing with the exr is something to think about...
                      - We switched to single channel exr´s a long time ago. Multichannel exrs are much slower to handle in Fusion
So maybe just another pass which supports the splitting into RGB.

The only thing I care... is having this option to avoid the every day discussion, hehe.

Ah, that was a misunderstanding then. What i thought of was having two different z-elements. And you could use EITHER the traditional one (which is single channel depth) or the EXTENDED one (which is rgb, and still includes the normal z).

                        Regards,
                        Thorsten
